The Scirocco is still a looker and great fun to drive. This is a limited edition model that has ties with the original Scirocco GTS launched back in 1982. Whereas the original developed a miserly 90bhp from a 1.8-litre engine, the modern day interpretation packs 175bhp from the 2.0 four cylinder diesel engine that is mated to a super slick DSG gearbox. The high-end trim adds a selection of visual adornments, with the most eye-catching being a pair of stripes and red door mirrors. You get all the equipment of the R-Line, but the GTS adds black leather upholstery with red stitching, a GTS logo on the headrest, steering wheel and sill plates. In addition it also comes with sat-nav, adaptive chassis control, dual-zone climate control and Bluetooth. Slick and precise steering response maintains a feeling of confidence in all manner of driving situations, it has a really likeable balance of rambunctious handling that settles to an easy-going mooch without fluster. The VW Scirocco remains one of our favourite everyday coupés, and we'd have it over most three-door hatchback alternatives.
