By the 1960s, Rolls-Royce had embraced the idea that some owners might prefer to take the wheel themselves. They introduced the Silver Shadow, prioritising owner-driver comfort – a feature appreciated not only by the owners but also by the remaining chauffeurs in service.

The two-door convertible version of the Silver Shadow quickly followed suit, becoming the most successful Rolls-Royce convertible ever. Originally known as the Silver Shadow Mulliner Park Ward Two-Door Drop Head Coupé in 1966, it was later renamed the Corniche in 1971 due to popular demand. The Corniche Convertible continued production until 1995, totalling 5,678 convertibles, while the coupé was discontinued in 1980.

In 1998, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd was acquired by Volkswagen, ensuring the future of both Rolls-Royce and Bentley. The licensing and production agreement between Volkswagen and BMW concluded in 2003. Rolls-Royce production shifted to the new BMW-owned factory in Goodwood, where the V12-powered Phantom was launched. Volkswagen spearheaded Bentley's relaunch, a significant chapter in the brand's history. Under Volkswagen's ownership, only one new Rolls-Royce model was produced, the Corniche V.

The Corniche V, launched in 2000, was the most expensive Rolls-Royce at the time, priced at £300,000. It boasted several distinctions, including being the last V8-powered Rolls-Royce. Powered by a 6.75-liter engine with a borrowed Bentley turbocharger, it shared design elements with the Silver Seraph and was built on the Bentley Azure's platform. Of the 329 Corniche Vs produced at Crewe, only 38 were right-hand drive. The interior featured opulent leather and fine wooden veneers, upholding Rolls-Royce's reputation for excellence.

This 2001 Corniche V, registered to Rolls-Royce on July 5, 2001, has been meticulously serviced at Sytner Rolls-Royce. The car comes with a service book, receipts, and an MOT Certificate valid until July 3, 2024.
